Shop

A point of sale that knows who is staying

Sell to a guest and it lands on their room bill, settled with the rest of the stay. Sell to a walk-in and it goes on the day's Desk Folio. Either way the sale is taxed at your province's rates the moment it is made.

The Cardinal shop on the demo property: packages, activity add-ons, and products showing their price and billing unit

The Shop on the demo property. Packages, add-ons that ride an activity booking, and products with their unit beside the price: the day-use shower is per use.

Selling

Two kinds of buyer, one till

Sell to a room

A sale to an in-house guest posts to their room folio and is settled at check-out with everything else on the stay. The guest signs one bill.

Sell to a walk-in

Somebody who is not staying buys on the Desk Folio, a real folio for each day with the desk as the guest. It is settled, voided and invoiced like any other folio, so the day's counter sales have a bill of their own.

A tab has a card behind it

Charging to the room is offered to a guest with a payment method on file. A guest who paid cash at arrival is offered take payment now instead, so every tab can actually be settled.

Taxed as it is sold

Every sale posts to the ledger with its GST and QST, or HST, at the moment of sale, filed under product revenue.

Billing units

Name it, and it suggests how it is billed

Type a product's name and Cardinal suggests the unit, as a one-tap suggestion you can change. The unit then drives the quantity, so a per-night item sold to a four-night stay bills four with nobody multiplying at the desk.

Packages

Four pricing bases, and revenue on the right night

Per stay, per night, per person, per person-night

A daily breakfast for two people over three nights bills six, correctly, without anyone doing arithmetic at the desk.

Revenue lands on the night it is earned

A multi-night package posts one charge per night on its own date, so a stay crossing a month end puts each morning's revenue in the right month.

You choose the day a package starts

Choose which day a package starts. Breakfast added on day two of a four night stay bills two mornings, and the kitchen sheet shows it on the right days.

Blended, separate or comped

Attach a package to a rate and choose how it appears. Blended shows the guest one all-in nightly rate while the lodging tax is still computed on the lodging portion only.

Late check-out and early check-in

Sold by the hour, and only while the room is free

Two hours past eleven and six hours past eleven are different products: the second one costs you the turnover. So they are a room product rather than a shop item, sold from the reservation, because only the stay knows when the room is free.

Priced by the hour
You set an hourly price. What the guest buys is frozen onto their stay at the moment of sale, so changing your price later leaves the stays already sold as they were agreed.
Capped by the next guest
A late check-out stops at the next arrival's check-in, and the offer says how many hours are available. An early check-in works the same way against the guest leaving.
The board moves with it
The bar on the calendar extends past check-out, so housekeeping and the second desk both see the room as held.
Taxed as a service
A few extra hours are a service, and accommodation tax stays on the nights.
Yours to switch on
Both start switched off, and the property turns them on at its own hourly price.

Questions

Asked and answered

How do I sell a package that is per person, per night?

That is one of the four pricing bases: per stay, per night, per person, per person-night. Breakfast for two over three nights bills six, correctly, with no arithmetic at the desk. You can also choose which day a package starts, so added on day two of a four-night stay it bills two mornings.

Can I include breakfast in the room rate?

Three ways, and you choose per item: charge it as its own line, blend it into the nightly price so the guest sees one all-in rate, or comp it. Blended keeps the accounting correct, because the lodging tax is still computed on the lodging portion only.

How does the kitchen know who eats when?

The guest service report: every guest on property that day, their services, that day's activities with times, and a printable sheet with a signature column.
