Setting up your property
5 min read
Before you can take bookings, Cardinal needs to know about your property. This takes about ten minutes.
1. Add your units
In Revenue Control → Rooms & Rates, create a category for each kind of unit you sell (for example, Cabin, Suite, Glamping tent). For each category, add the individual units and set:
- The default nightly rate
- Maximum occupancy
- A photo, if you have one
2. Set your rates
Adjust pricing by season or day of week with dated rate plans. You can start with a single rate and refine it later - there's no need to get everything perfect on day one.
3. Confirm your taxes
Open Property Settings and set your province. Cardinal derives the right taxes automatically - for Québec that's GST 5% + QST 9.975% plus the lodging tax. See How Canadian taxes work for the details.
4. Connect payments
Connect your payment account to take cards and Interac (debit and e-Transfer), with deposits and balances handled on the folio.
You're ready
Once units, rates, and taxes are in place, your hosted booking page is live. The next step is learning the daily flow - see Checking in a guest.
